In Memory of John Leitzke

May 21, 1941 – August 5, 2016

John served in the Navy for 24 years and served our post in many positions over the years.

John, you will be missed.

Membership Night

We had our membership drive dinner on August 22nd.  A gourmet dinner was prepared by Master BBQ chefs Steve Cordery, Larry Malsch, Paul Rausch, and Ron Grair. The meal of Burgers, brats, sweet corn, and baked beans were served.  The Ladies auxiliary provided a great assortment of cookies and desserts.   Our paid up members at the start of the event was at 110 members.  We still need to recruit more active members. If you know of any veterans, that are planning retirement shortly, and wondering what they are going to do with all that “free time”, have them contact the Post. They may contact Larry Malsch our Membership chairman (262-728-9555 or malsch@charter.net) or Len Hahn (847-910-2282 or lennyhahn@gmail.com) to get them signed up.

Pig Roast Dinner

The Post will host another Pig Roast on Saturday, October 1st. The event will be open to the public and expenses will be deferred through a meat raffle. The event will begin at 1:00 pm and run until 7:00 pm. All profits from the Pig roast will be donated to the local Veteran’s hospitals. Please come out, buy a raffle ticket for meat, and support the disabled veterans.

USAF A1C George Ingram

USAF A1C George Ingram, of Beloit, WI, had his remains flown home 64 years after his death in a remote area of Alaska. While serving in the Air Force, A1C Ingram, age 23, was onboard a military aircraft that crashed in Alaska in 1952 killing all personnel.

Airman George Ingram's body was transported by vehicle and escorted by family from Mitchell Field Airport in Milwaukee to Beloit Wednesday, July 27, 2016. Airman Ingram received a military salute by Legion members as his remains pass under the overpass at Borg Road. Airman Ingram is being remembered for paying the ultimate sacrifice while serving on active duty in the United States Air Force.

2016 Slient March

The 1st District of the Wisconsin American Legion is comprised of 45 posts from five counties in southeastern Wisconsin. Every year since September 1984, the 1st District Legionnaires, along with all other veterans and civilians, have rendered respect for those who may still be serving this country as a POW or are classified as Missing in Action. This tribute takes the form of a Silent March. This year's march marks 30 years of remembrance and will be hosted by Edwin L. Jones Post 91, Oconomowoc. For more information about the Silent March, contact Bill Winkels, Commander & POW/MIA co-chair 262-490-2924.

2016 election of officers

Post 95 new officers were installed this past Monday at our monthly meeting. New officers were installed by Bob Miller, Walworth County Commander. Congratulations to newly elected Commander John Loomer.  Pictured from left to right: Ron Grair (past commander) Ralph Moehrke, Louie Lindloff, Paul Rausch, John Leitzke, Don Roeker, Bob Penniman, Len Hahn, John Loomer, Dick Carlson, and Bill Wenger.

Friday Fish Fry

Our Friday night smelt fry, which is the fourth Friday of every month, will begin again this month, September. The profits from this event will be accumulated throughout the season and donated to one of the area veteran’s hospitals.  Last season was profitable and the profits of $487.95 for the year was donated to Union Grove VA Hospital. We will continue the smelt fry, but we need more support from our members and community as well.  Bring your friends and family to the event in September and join us for food, fun, and fellowship. Note: November’s Smelt Fry will be held on the third Friday, November 18th to avoid conflicts with Thanksgiving.

Treat the Auxiliary

Don’t forget the special event we have planned for September 26th at 6:00 PM.  We will be serving the Ladies a dinner in gratitude for all their support they provide to our post. Come out for a dinner and an opportunity to give your personal thank you to the ladies. There is no cost for the event just come out and enjoy the evening.
